From 1981, he studied law and political science at the University of Vienna and the Free University of Berlin, graduating in 1989. For the next six years, he worked as a trainee attorney at the law firm of Dr. Thomas Prader\/Dr. Werner Goeritz in Vienna. He has been a registered attorney since 1997, specializing in criminal law, public law, asylum and immigration law, tenancy and housing law, and general practice.<br>Since 1994, Georg B\u00fcrstmayr has been a member of the legal advisor project of the UNHCR, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and a member of the Asylum Lawyers Network. Four years later, Georg B\u00fcrstmayr became a contract lawyer for MA 11 of the City of Vienna&#039;s Municipal Department, focusing on the legal representation of unaccompanied minor asylum seekers in Vienna. Since 2001, he has headed the Higher Regional Court of Vienna 1 Commission of the Human Rights Advisory Council.<br>Georg B\u00fcrstmayr has published numerous articles on immigration and asylum law, human rights, and criminal law.
