The Viennese HEMAYAT association was established in 1995 as a center for medical, psychological, and psychotherapeutic care for torture and war survivors. The word \u0084Hemayat\u0093 comes from Arabic and means \u0084care\u0093 and \u0084protection.\u0093 The effects of war and torture last long after the directly life-threatening event is over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
