ZARA (Austria)

ZARA, an acronym in German for „Civil Courage and Work Against Racism“ was founded in 1999. Their founding principle was the wish for civil courage and a racism-free society in Austria. They also hope to combat all forms of racism. They have three means of working against racism: counseling, prevention, and raising public awareness. The organization ZARA is one of the leading actors in Austria in the fight against racism and xenophobia, one of the largest contributors to human rights violations in Austria. They document cases of racism and xenophobia in Austria on a monthly basis. ZARA also helps victims with legal counseling and support. At the same time ZARA also holds training seminars to raise awareness of latent racist misconceptions, and to thereby fight against racism.
