The Permanent Committee is comprised of church, humanitarian, and academic groups from El Salvador. More than 80 organizations were a part of the Permanent Committee in the 1990s, with the number of members reaching the thousands. They were well known for hosting freedom talks between the government and guerrilla fighters. The goal of the Committee is to establish respect for human rights, social reforms, and a peaceful solution to the conflicts in El Salvador. They also support a demilitarization of society.
